Honor The Earth By Tweeting These Companies #nostyro

Last Earth Day I started this action trying to get people to tweet companies that still use styrofoam (polystyrene) during the week of Earth Day to show them that their consumers care.  So this year I am suggesting the same thing lets try to start a revolution and tell companies that use Styrofoam to stop. It is bad for our health and bad for the environment. If you want more details on why we should not use styrofoam click here to see my post Why Styrofoam is Bad.

ACTION: This week Tweet the companies below and tell them stop using styrofoam us the hashtag #NoStyro If you are not on Twitter go to their Facebook page or email them using their customer feedback pages (all links listed below)

Since I wrote that post there have been TONS of people who have gone to the Dunkin Donuts website to leave a comment asking them to stop using styrofoam. Here are some other companies that I have seen using styrofoam. If you know of any others leave me comment, email me at greenforu (at) hotmail (dot) com, or tweet me @greenforu and I will add a link to their comment page. [Read more...]

Weekly Roundup- No Pun Intended!

Social Good Summit 2012

Climate Mama and I at the Social Good Summit

It has been a busy week so I thought I owed you all a post of important things for you to know and check out.

Energy Star Contest

Over the summer thousands of kids entered the Energy Star contest. Kids were asked to write about how they are trying to help save the environment. I think this was an amazing contest and you will be enlighten and inspired by some of the things these children wrote. It gives me hope that this next generation gets that this is an important issue and that they will have to live differently than us. Head over to their Facebook page and like/vote for your favorite entry.

Styrofoam (really styrene but we call it by its commercial name)

I have been on a crusade to stop styrofoam since I wrote the post Why Stryrofoam is Bad. I have tweeted companies asking them to stop using sytrofoam (here is a list). My fellow blogger Corey at Celebrate Green  started a change.org petition asking Delta airlines to stop using styrofoam. Please head over to the petition and sign it, then tweet it and share it on Facebook.

Want to tweet Delta and ask them to stop using Styrofoam here are some sample tweets to send

Hey @delta it is not “the greener skies” when you still use styrene cups #nostyro
Please @delta stop using cups that leach chemicals into our body and hurt the planet #nostyro

While you are at it tell US Airways too because this week I saw first hand they still use the cups too.
@usairways and @delta help the planet you are taking us to see and stop using styrene cups #nostyro

Or think of something clever for any company that uses Styrofoam and use the hashtag #nostyro and I promise to retweet you!!!

Rice and Arsenic

Anna at Green Talk started this petition a while ago but it is back in the headlines again… arsenic in our rice!! Sign her petition and lets get the FDA to actually take action. You eat rice, right… you have to sign this petition!!

Social Good Summit

I had the great fortune of attending the Social Good Summit in New York hosted by the 92nd Street Y and sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Mashable (among others). I had an amazing time and some of the speakers really surprised me with very interesting talks. I will write more about it next week but if you cannot wait head over to the website for the event and watch some videos. Jane Goodall was amazing!!! I really hope some day I can meet her even if it is just for a minute!

The new issue of Green Child Magazine is out so check it out here. If you have never read it before you are missing out so head over there and check it out!

Next week I have a lot of really exciting things in store for you so I hope you stop by.
